Shining In The Background

So what does "Shining In The Background” mean – simply put it's main chick vs side chick.

The main chick is more visible to the public, official, and has priority in the relationship, but the side chick is always "shining in the background".

Most men don't, and some men do have side chicks, why? What is the benefit of having a woman on the side? Is it greed? Is it conquering the challenge?
